学校事情 (15): Stanford on iTunes
iTunesを経由して, 講義・スピーチおよび授業が配信されていることを, ようやく知った (i.e. 時代遅れがここに約1名いる).
Worried about missing the Dalai Lama’s speeches in November? Sad you missed Steve Jobs’ commencement speech last year? With last Thursday’s launch of Stanford on iTunes ― a collaboration between Apple and the University ― you no longer have to be. Now, you can simply go to http://itunes.stanford.edu/ and upload audio files of these events.
The Stanford-Apple partnership involves two separate Web sites, one public and one private, both of which provide exclusively Stanford-related audio-content through the iTunes Music Store at no charge.

授業が見える! と期待されているBlogをいくつか見受けるが, 現段階では, lectureやspeech (講義・講演) を主に配信している. よって, ''Stanfordで行われている授業 (classes, lectureともいう) を隅から隅までぜーんぶ, このサービスによって配信されているわけではない. この辺, 誤解を生んでいるような印象がある. 私自身の誤解かもしれないが, [lectures] → [講義] → [いわゆる学校で行われる普通の授業] と受け取られている方々が多いかもしれない...?
なんにせよ、ちょうど, PowerBookとiPodを購入したので, まさに、JUST IN TIME, DUDE! けど実際サービスの発表があったのは1ヶ月も前だが... Stanford Dailyの表紙はちゃんと毎日チェックしていたつもりだったんだけど...
Steve Jobsのスピーチは, こういうところ: (http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/grad-061505.html ) Steve Jobs to 2005 graduates: 'Stay hungry, stay foolish' (Stanford Report), で観たので, 個人的には Dalai Lamaのイベントに興味があったが, 同じくStanford Report: http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2005/november9/dalai-110905.html にあった. また、学校内で行われたコンサートの録音も配信している. Classicとか.
Windowsからでもアクセスできるが, PowerBookが届くのを待って詳細を確認してみようっと. と思ったけどやっぱWindows＋iTunesでとりあえず試用.
音楽メディア以外のもの (講演やスピーチなど) をiTunesで配信するっていうのは, 素晴らしいですね.
授業に関してはSCPDがbetter
授業については, どうもまだまだ試験的にしか採用していないらしい. しかもこれはCourseWork (http://coursework.stanford.edu/) を経由しないと聴けない上に (つまり認証が必要), 12のクラスしか採用していないようだ. 本格的運用は来年から?

授業はiTunes経由では一般には非公開なんですけど... もうちょっと公開してもいいのではないでしょうか...?

CourseWorkとは
個々の授業用に用意されたページで, 宿題や資料、試験、成績を管理するもの. CourseWorkのサイトを使うクラスもあれば, 授業それぞれの固有のページ, 例えば,

http://ee364.stanford.edu,
を準備するクラスもあり様々である. 個人的には, 後者の方がイチイチ認証画面を通過する必要がないので好き. たまに, ホームページすら存在しない授業もある. Stanfordだからといって, 全部が全部進んでいるわけではない. CourseWorkへアクセスするにはIDが必要なので, 授業を取る (=授業料をお布施する) 必要がある.
Students who are in a course that is using the service will see a new option on the CourseWork Web page for their course labeled 'iTunes,’” explained Director of Web Communications Scott Stocker.
Last spring, three IHUM classes tested the technology, using it to distribute lectures, music and readings.
“The trial was very successful and was expanded for the fall,” said Alan Acosta, associate vice president and director of University communications.
Currently, 12 classes are experimenting with the options. According to a Stanford press release, “If results are successful, the University will broaden support for use of the tool in courses starting in 2006.”

だから, もしStanfordの授業を覗いてみたいのであれば, 以前のこの連載でも紹介した, SCPDの方が充実していると言える. Science, Engineeringに限られるが...
このSCPDは学校内のケーブルTVでは生中継 (録画の場合もあり) しているので, 寝坊をした場合や病気の時には大助りするのはもちろん, web経由では分かりにくかった授業を見直すのにうってつけなのだ.
SCPDはPublicなり!
